PAVAS -Setting the Alarm Speed

PAVAS has a number of audible alarms. The highest priority alarm is that for Overspeed or Alarm speed. When this set value is exceeded, the PAVAS tone is a constant frequency at 3300 Hertz. The alarm value is adjusted the Alarm Spd Set menu. When selected, PAVAS provides a few short displays with instructions on how to change the speed value. These displays can be bypassed by pressing any key. The speed value can be set to within 0.1 kph.. The second line of the display shows the current Alarm Speed with a cursor underlining the digit that can be changed. The dight is changed with the Up or Down buttons. If the change exceeds a value of 9, the displayed value is incremented by 10. This reduce the need to move the cursor. The cursor position for the digit can be changed with the left and right buttons. This technique of changing the cursor position reduces the keystrokes required to set a value. After the correct speed has been set, the Select button will save the value and move to the next menu.

The next menu sets the volume for the Alarm condition. This displays a value between 0 to 25. The value is changed by the same method of moving the cursor and incrementing of decrementing the digit underlined. The new value is saved by pressing the Select key. Rally experience shows that the Alarm or Overspeed condition maybe be reached at high ambient vehicle noise levels. The ability to change the audio tone volume can be used to compensate for this. Once the speed falls below Alarm level, the volume level of the subsequent tones falls back to the user selected level.

Once the Select key is pressed PAVAS displays the Alarm Speed and Volume for a short period to provide confirmation of the changes. This display maybe bypassed by pressing any key.

Note that high frequency tones tend to be directional, so speaker placement can be important to hear the tone.
